February isn’t just about love—it’s also Heart Health Awareness Month, at Scrubs By Jeness, we encourage you to take time to show some love to the most important muscle in your body! Let’s make heart health fun with easy tips on healthy eating, joyful movement, and the magic of compression socks.
Healthy Eating: Love Your Heart with Every Bite ❤️??
Eating heart-healthy doesn’t mean boring! Here are some easy and delicious ways to nourish your heart:
- Berry Bliss – Strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries are packed with antioxidants that keep your heart happy. My favorite berries are Driscoll’s organic blueberries which you can find at Harris Teeter, Wegman’s and Whole Foods.
- Go Nuts! – Almonds, walnuts, and pistachios provide healthy fats and fiber that support your ticker.
- Color Your Plate – Bright-colored veggies like bell peppers, carrots, and spinach add vitamins that strengthen your heart.
Pro Tip: Swap out processed snacks for dark chocolate (yes, chocolate!)—it’s rich in flavonoids that can help lower blood pressure. Give your Valentine a sweet treat with Hu Hunks Chocolate-Covered Almonds. You can find them at the Fresh Market.
Move That Body: Fun & Easy Ways to Stay Active ?????
Forget the treadmill! Moving your body should be fun and fit into your daily life. Here are some ways to keep your heart pumping without it feeling like a chore:
- Dance Like Nobody’s Watching – Put on your favorite playlist and dance around the house. (Bonus points for singing along!) You will always find us playing dancing tunes at both our Greenbrier and Town Center, VB locations.
- Take the Scenic Route – Walk the long way to your destination, or park farther away at the store. My husband and I enjoy hiking all over Virginia. Our goal is to hike/ruck 10 miles every Sunday. We haven’t missed a week so far this year.
- Chair Workouts – If you’re sitting a lot, do seated leg lifts or arm circles to keep the blood flowing. I love squats. In fact, I’m going to take five minutes and get in a mini workout right now.
