Eco-Friendly Adventures: How Recycled Polyester and Trolls Inspire a Sustainable Future
Posted by Christina Kinerk-Cruce on 4th Oct 2024
Using recycled materials to create polyester has a ton of benefits, especially for the environment. First, it helps reduce our need for new plastic made from oil, which means we can cut down on pollution and lower carbon emissions. Plus, recycling polyester helps keep plastic waste out of landfills and oceans, which is great for the planet. The best part? It takes less energy to make recycled polyester than creating it from scratch, so it's a more eco-friendly choice. On average , 6-10 water bottles go into a yard of recycled polyester fabric. By supporting recycled polyester, you're helping create a world where we reuse materials instead of wasting them—making fashion more sustainable and stylish!
Today I visited the Virginia Aquarium to see the Trolls: Save The Humans exhibit. Wearing EPIC scrubs which are made of 43% recycled polyester was the obvious choice for this adventure. I wore the Reagan top and the Briana pants which are both eco-friendly. I encountered a tribe of Trolls that encourage people to reconnect with nature and inspire them to care for and protect the planet. Each Troll had a unique message to share, and I wanted pass their message with to you.
Ronja Redeye: The Speaker Troll
Known as the most skilled communicator in her traveling troll tribe, Ronja approaches humans with kindness and empathy. She understands that words hold the ability to bring joy, but they also have the potential to cause sorrow.
Kamma Can: The Trash Troll
Kamma Can is a visionary. While humans often see trash, she sees endless possibilities. Her mission is to show people that instead of discarding items so quickly, they can tap into their creativity—like turning vibrant plastics into beautiful necklaces!
Sofus Lotus: The Listening Troll
Sofus Lotus is deeply observant, always attuned to the smallest details. He was the first to sense that something in the world was amiss—that nature itself was shifting. Quiet and calm, he doesn't raise alarm but continues to listen carefully, staying mindful of the natural world and its creatures.
Basse Buller: The Painting Troll
Basse Buller is a free spirit who communicates his ideas with mud paint and uses elements of nature—like stones, leaves, and sticks—to guide humans in the right direction. A true rebel at heart, he views every "no" as a possible "maybe."
Rosa Sunfinger: The Botanist Troll
Rosa, a quiet and introspective troll, shares her thoughts through her nurturing touch with plants. With her life-giving fingers, she teaches others how plants can breathe new life into even the most discarded objects, offering her wisdom in a gentle, hands-on way.
Ibbi Pip: The Birdhouse Troll
Ibbi Pip uses vibrant birdhouses as a way to connect with humans. After noticing how people use them to attract wildlife, she believes that adding more birdhouses could help spark a deeper sense of compassion in humans for the natural world around them.
